Dean of LALT Introduction Blog by Katie Strudwick

Dean of LALT Introduction Blog by Katie Strudwick (Associate Professor – College of Social Science – Dean of the Lincoln Academy of Learning and Teaching)

I am delighted to accept the post as Dean of LALT and very much look forward to representing members over the next two years (2021- 2023). My vision focuses upon student engagement and how we can reinvigorate Student as Producer principles in learning and teaching at the University of Lincoln.  By building upon the foundations of good practice, there is potential to develop more innovative pedagogical practices.

We have all had to adapt our roles to the current challenges, through blended learning, upskilling with the accessibility of digital learning tools, managing student expectations and preserving the wellbeing of colleagues and students. Now is the time to evaluate what has worked with learning and teaching, identifying why and where we can go in the future; a time to think about our core principles.

LALT’s role is to provide guidance and support on teaching practice, and to develop collaborative projects and innovations. It represents a community for members (all academics and support staff who teach), through three core teams- the The LALT Engagement Team, The Digital Education Team and The Digital Student Life Team.

LALT has a core role in the University as the hub of good practice, and broadening it’s visibility, or it’s ‘reach’, is part of my vision.

The key themes of LALT include:

  • Recognition of learning and teaching within the wider sector – understanding and responding to drivers and impact.
  • Enhancing student engagement at the University – where students and academics work alongside each other, as partners.
  • Provide communications and sharing practice – with a repository of resources.
  • Staff development and recognition and CPD.

By developing these themes there are reciprocal benefits to sharing practices, both internally and externally, while also showcasing our innovations at the University.

As Dean of LALT I aim to build a community of practice for you all, and I very much look forward to working with you on this. So LALT, as a community, can lead and support you all on the development of learning and teaching in these evolving and challenging times.
